I already had access problem to this online knowledge blog. It was not fully down but there were sometimes that this blog could not be accessed. I faced the web hosting problem for almost two weeks. In first time, I thought that it was due to internet connection problem. So, I did ping to letupdate.com in my dos prompt. The ledupdate.com replied the ping perfectly, so It could conclude that there were no internet connection problems. The problem must be in hosting server it self. Therefore, I contacted my webhosting costumer care via yahoo messenger.
Yah, it is an easy way to complaint by use yahoo messenger. I am glad that my webhosting service provides yahoo messenger complain care so i can always complaint to them.
The costumer care said to me that there is server maintenance in which my blog is hosted and the problem will solve in 30 minutes. So, I did my routine blogwalking and updated my other blog and came back to check after 30 minutes. And I found that this blog already up at that time. So, I think the problem already solved and back to did my routine things for that day.
But, the access problem still occasionally occur in few days after that day. I already complaint each time the problem occurs and it is always take 30 minutes the problem solves. Yah, the problem always solve but also always occurs. The situation was really bad for this blog. The readers will think that I am not one of serious bloger, and they might leave this blog in deep lonely. Ok, I might be little too much there, but it is true that this blog will suffer some lost if this situation continue. So, I did hard complaint to them, and they finally answered me with the real problem description.
My web hosting service faced the system failure because their UPS failed to did the job when power fail occur. It makes the hosting server down without shutdown and make error on the hosting sever file system. All hosting data is save because it keep in 8 different sever, but it needed time for stability and also web hosting technician still did some maintenance at the broken hosting server. That was why this blog access was not stable for all day of one week. After one week, this blog access already quite stabled but there was another problem I found. I could not install “WP-DB-Backup” plugin in this blog because of the file directory access permission problem.
I could not change the “/wp-content/backup-b4283/” file to mode “777″ which is needed by “WP-DB-Backup”. So, I did my complaint which is already become my routine again. And, I was really thankful for my hosting service technician that gives me some new technology knowledge according this situation. It seems that the problem was not because I could not change the directory to mode “777″. The technician told me that my webhosting service use phpsuexec feature in the host server. This feature make that we can wrote in “755″ directory. We did not need change file directory access to “777″ only for file writing. It makes our site really safe in web security point of view..
So, why did I get the problem to install “WP-DB-Backup” plugin then? It was because legacy of the UPS fail problem before. It maked that all of hosting server file directory become read-only mode. So, there were no ways to do some change in file directory include “/wp-content/backup-b4283/” file directory. Therefore, I must wait this server problem to completely solve for normal hosting activities. I did not consider moving my hosting yet. I still think that my current webhosting service is doing great for affordable price hosting service, even until know. It was my first hosting problem experience anyway, and hopes it will be my the only one.
That’s all update for this time, wait for next update!

[...] disappointed by my current web hosting service. As these blog readers, you should already aware of my first web hosting problem experience. And guess what? That is not the first and the last. This blog occasionally face connection problem [...]
we should backup our blog time by time and i thinks wp-backup is the best plugin for this
i use wp-backup too.
@Nhoel
Yes, $4 per six month but of course it has limitation in bandwidth and hardisk space. But, I no need unlimited bandwidth and hardisk space for now, so it more cost effective for me.
$4 for six months???? watda? ill take a look at that… maybe it’s a bandwidth issue. Ill be back.
thanks

@Nhoel
Last time i check it, the price is $5,x per month. Btw, i only pay $4 per six months for my current hosting.
@Dana
EXPENSIVE? A BIG “NO” FOR THAT.
I PAY FOR MY DOMAIN FOR $10 AND MONTHLY HOSTING FEE FOR $2.49… NOW TELL ME IF THAT’S EXPENSIVE.
IT’S THE CHEAPEST, I THINK, NOT TO MENTION THE MOST RELIABLE.
thanks,

@Ricky
Yes, i agree with you. Thanks god that there are many hosting service out there, so we can always move to better hosting.
Give your host sometime to recover properly. If the problem persist then you can always go for other option. If your blog is down for a long then you will loose the credibility.
@Blaine Bullman
I may consider move to hostgator if this blog already have enough earn. Thanks blaine.
I use Hostgator and I think their the best but if us bloggers are going to be in the blogosphere for the long run then we need to get a good and reliable web host. Hopefully everything will work itself out soon Dana.
@indyaz
Thanks for the info.
bluehost is good for blog hosting as i think.. before taking any hosting from any company.. read forum related hosting company.. i think it will help you
@Michael Aulia
I already know about that. Yes, true that my web hosting is Indonesia company, but the company have server in US in which this web host. So, i think the connection is no problem anymore.
I assume your web server is based in Indonesia?
and as you already know, the connection is so bad there that our dial-up (in Australia) is even faster than the cable in there!
I guess when you can make more money out of this blog, you should go for a hosting in the U.S. For $4-8 per month, you’ll be pampered
@Klaus @ TechPatio
Yah, it is really big problem if we only can wait.
Yes, friend, you can not band deh web hosting, but you can always move to another.
@Saksham
I surely insist to move to another web hosting if my current web hosting face that problem again. The problem almost 2 weeks, and it really kill me. Of course, I tolerate if problem only for less than 1 hours.
This is not a very big problem. Every host needs to perform some maintenance in order to keep the sites hosted in it going. Its a common problem. Mostly this problem is solved within a hour or so.
Actually I use WebHostGiant as my host as its too cheap and has good service. GoDaddy according to me is very expensive.
@ dana, you don’t really need to change your host if this problem re occurs. This is a common problem. It is solved in a few hours or less. Almost every site faces these problems. If you change to a very good host the time required for maintenance will be less or even none as they fix your site on other server of theirs.
Regards,
Saksham
I hate it when webservers goes down, especially the ones you cannot control yourself and you have to wait for the hosting company to attend to it or get back to you. Sometimes they also have a “status” page up where you can see that they have a problem, it’s just that you never know if the message is automatic or not, so you don’t know if anybody is actually working on it and when it’s expected to get back up.
Web hosting companies should be banned! Oh, wait… that won’t work!
@Blake @ Props Blog
I will surely change my web host service if this problem appear again in future. For now, the service seems ok to me.
My blog is also hosted through GoDaddy, and I haven’t had any problems yet. I think one or two of my readers have said they had problems accessing the page, but they were isolated events that I think might have been on their side, not mine.
I don’t know how much your host worries about retention, but they should compensate your for your troubles with either free hosting or a credit on your account or something. In my opinion there is no excuse for repeated problems in such a short period of time.
@Nhoel
But, it is too expensive for me.
@Neo
Yah, wordpress.com is safe.
@Isaac | GoBlogger
Thanks for the link.
Every web hosting experiences problem now and then, that’s normal. As long as they can fix it, it’s OK. Check out this What You Can Do When Your Blog is Down.
Yes getting a good webhost is a problem. Unfortunately I have a personal blog at wordpress so I’m not worried about it too much.
Anyway I like your post.
Thanks
I USED GODADDY.COM FOR MY HOSTING.
It’s currently the number one hosting company, i never had a problem since. i recommend it!
thanks
