Top Commentators

I really appreciate all of the good commentators that leave their comment in this online knowledge blog. The comment is one of the factors that still keep me do blogging. Comments also act as inspiration source for my next blog content. In fact, I really gain much knowledge from blog comment. It is not only the comment in this blog but also comment in others blog. Sometime, I found that the comment have more useful information than to blog content it self. So, it is normal that blog admin give appreciation for the commentators this day. Especially for blog admin who really understand the importance of comment.

DoFollow Tag in Comment Form

There are blog admin appreciate the commentators by use DoFollow tag in their comment form so the commentators get page rank juice form it. But in my opinion, this kind of appreciation only can do for blog that already have a ton of back link. It is because comment form with DoFollow tag potentially harms the blog rank in search engine. Google really hate the blog that pass too many page rank juice to another site, especially if the link is not related with blog content. The blog that pass too money link juice which is not related with blog content surely will punish by Google immediately. And this is surely happen for blog that uses do follow tag in comment form, because it is impossible to control link of commentators. It is also not a good choice to filter the commentators’ link because it surely decreases number of commentators.

DoFollow Tag in Top Commentators

In my opinion, the best and easy method to appreciate the commentators without harm your blog is use DoFollow tag in Top Commentators list. Yes, I really suggest that we put the top commentators list in our blog and use DoFollow link on it. Sure, you can control how many link list in Top Commentators list. This kind of appreciation is more reasonable to both of our blog and the commentators. Having ten or five DoFollow link in our blog side bar will not harm our blog and we still give some page rank juice to our readers. This method also can increase number of blog comment because many blogger love contest. The surely try to reach top position in top commentators list. Therefore, I search trough internet if there is WordPress plugin for this needs. And I find it really fast. The plugin is “Show Top Commentators” WordPress plugin.

Let’s install “Show Top Commentators” WordPress Plugin

Go to WordPress “site admin”

Click “Plugins” tab

Click “Add New” button

Fill “Show Top Commentators” in search box

Click “Search Plugins” button

Click “Install” button

Click “Install Now” button

Click “Activate Plugin” button

Go to “Appearance” tab and click it

Click “Widgets” button

Drag “Top Commentators” widget to side bar

Fill the customize form with that suit you

Click “Save” button

The “top commentators” plugin successfully installed. The top commentators of our blog will appear in blog sidebar. We can customize how the top commentators appear in our blog. We can choose the most suitable appearance for our blog. I, my self, choose to show top 5 commentators with DoFollow link in this blog.

Conclusion

Comments are really important part of blog. That’s why each blog admin should give appreciation for their commentators. You can choose to appreciate the commentators by put DoFollow tag in comment form or only put DoFollow tag in top commentators list. Use DoFollow tag in comment form method is more risky than use DoFollow tag in top commentators list method. “Show Top Commentators” WordPress plugin is used to show top commentators list in sidebar. This plugin allow blog admin to easy customize the top commentators list such as apply DoFollow tag.

favicon

I already create favicon for this online knowledge blog so this blog have the uniqueness between tons of site in internet. There are also some blog tips that say favicon useful to create visibility in bookmark list. I found that favicon also useful to create brand image for site/blog. A really unique favicon will increase awareness of the blog. Blog brand awareness is really important thing if we want to make money from our blog. It is as same as brand awareness of product in real world business. In internet, our blog is our product.

The process until have blog favicon quite simple. First, must create a small 16×16 pixels picture and save the picture as favicon.ico. I use the free picture editor software IrfanView to create my unique small favicon.ico picture. I create the small favicon.ico picture really fast, only by resize the picture that I already prepare with IrfanView, and then save the picture as favicon.ico. I upload the favicon.ico picture to my site root folder by use FileZilla. And then I install “Admin Favicon” WordPress plugin.

Go to WordPress “Site Admin” page

Click “Plugins” tab

Click “Add New” button

Fill “Admin Favicon” in search box

Click “Search Plugins” button

Click “Install” button

Click “Install Now” button

Click “Activate Plugin” button

Go to “Settings” tab and click it

Click “Admin Favicon” button

Insert http://letupdate.com/favicon.ico as favicon URL

Click “Update”

Ok, the favicon is already installed successfully in this online knowledge blog. Therefore, every time this blog is opened, there is small unique picture will appear in top of browser. This small unique picture also appears in bookmarks page as well. I hope that this blog click from bookmarks will increase after this favicon installation and also make a better brand awareness rank in internet. It also can say that each time readers look this blog favicon picture appears, they directly associate it with this blog.

It is possible by using “WordPress.com Stats” plugin. This plugin is created by Creator Company of WordPress itself, the Automatic. This plugin is really trustworthy because it is created by Automatic (WordPress creator) which really understands WordPress. There is no different from others WordPress.org plugin installation. We must login to “Site Admin” page before start the installation. After login, Go to “Plugin” tab, and then click “Add new” button. The search box will appear. Insert “WordPress.com Stats” as keyword in search box and then click “Search Plugin” button.

The “WordPress.com Stats” plugin appears, and then click “Install” button on it. The Installation page appears, and then click “Install Now” button. Success installation page appear, and then click “Activate plugin” button. Go to “Plugin” tab, and then click “WordPress.com Stats” button. The WordPress.com API request appears, and then inserts the API key if already have it. Click “Get Your Key Here” link if do not have API key yet. Insert the API key which gets from WordPress.com profile, and then click “Save” button. Click “Add to WordPress.com account” button to associate it with the API key.

The “WordPress.com Stats” plugin already successfully installed. Visit the “Dashboard” tab and then click “Blog Stats” button to show the statistic. The statistics page of the blog appears. If it does not appear yet, just wait. It need time to collect the blog statistic, be patient! And please note that “WordPress.com Stats” plugin process the statistic in WordPress.com server so it does not load our hosting server. What a great statistic provider. I directly look for must needed plugin when have this online knowledge as my first self hosting WordPress blog. And after do some research trough internet, I decide to install my first three plugin, and  the others plugin can wait. I group this three plugin as WordPress.org blog that must have. In my opinion, The WordPress.org blog already on good track if already install these three plugins. Others plugins will install base on blog needs, but not for these three must have plugins.

Here the first and must have three plugin that I installed in my WordPress.org blog:

• All in One SEO Pack, to help for Search Engine Optimization.
• Stat Press, to get trusty statistic of the blog.
• Google Sitemap, to make GoogleBot Friendly sitemap

These three plugin accompany Akismet plugin which is already active as default plugin for my WordPress.org blog. Actually, there is another default plugin which is Hello Dolly plugin, but I remove it instantly after WordPress blog installation because do not need it.

At this article, I only write about my experience according “All in One SEO Pack” plugin installation and setting. I will share the others two plugin in another article. Please note that we must be in “site admin” to do “All in One SEO Pack” plugin installation and setting. Ok, enough for the introduction, Lets rock the Blog SEO for better Search Engine Result Page (SERP), especially for Google SERP. Just enjoy my simple experience according “All in One SEO Pack” plugin installation and setting.

Go to letupdate.com

Login to admin page as administrator

Go to “Plugin” tab

Click “Add New” button.

Fill “All in One SEO Pack” in search box

Click “Search Plugins” button

Click “install” button

Click “Install Now” button

Click “Activate Plugin” button

The “All in One SEO Pack” plugin already installed and activated, but it still needs to configure for optimal result. So, let us configure it.

Go to “Setting” tab

Click “All in One SEO Pack” button

Check enable at “Plugin Status”

Fill “Home Title” form as meta title

Fill “Home Description” form as meta description

Fill “Home Keywords” from as meta keywords

Click “Update Options” button

Setting has done successfully. Yes, it’s all that I do for the installation this time. I decide that it is already enough although I still can fill other form if needed. I always can click “FAQ” and “Support” button if have any doubt according this plugin. I do my checking about this setting in seoseven.com and all of the three meta tag already appear. So, “All in One SEO Pack” plugin installation and setting already did successfully although it is only with basic configuration. I may write about advance configuration in future article.
