It is already a long time that I do not write about Atahualpa WordPress Theme configuration. It is because I am busy in other aspect of blogging such as blog marketing, blog content creation, blog SEO, Guest Blogging Preparation, make money blogging and others. With the whole of these busyness, I have no time to do design customization for this blogging tips blog and that’s why there is no Atahualpa WordPress Theme Configuration blog post series. However, The time is with me finally so here another Atahualpa WordPress Theme configuration blog post.

In last Atahualpa configuration blog post series, I write about how to limit Atahualpa width. And for now, I want to share how to create new area of widget. This is one of great feature that Atahualpa provides. We allow to add freely new placement of widget area beside the default placement. In this blog post, I will share how to add new widget area in above of blog post and only show while readers in single post area. This Atahualpa customization include a simple code and Atahualpa Theme Option (ATO). Let’s start:

Prepare The Code

As I mention above, this time I want to share how to create new widget area which only showed while readers read the single post. Here the code that can fulfill this need:

The Widget Creation

In this part, we will put the code so the widget will be showed in above of each blog post. Here how we do it:

• Copy The Code
• Log in to “WordPress Admin Page”
• Go To “Appearance” and click it
• Click “Atahualpa Theme Options”
• Go to “Center Column” area
• Click “STYLE & edit CENTER COLUMN”
• Go to “The LOOP” area
• Paste the code in very upper part

This widget creation will put a single widget in above of blog post – in above of navigation area exactly. We can fill this widget base on our needs by go to WordPress widget area in WordPress Admin page. As example, I put calendar on this “Upper Post Widget” and here the result:

Final Words

Widgetize is one of great feature that provided by Atahualpa WordPress Theme. This theme allows us to add new placement of widget freely. In this blog post, I share how to put the widget in above of each post which only showed in single post. I only show the basic widgetize in this blog post. You surely can customize this widgetize further. You can put it in different area or divide the widget into three areas. There are so many potential to make it into more great widget base on the need.

As pre-installation act, I backup the function.php file since I did some customizing in it. It is needed because Atahualpa theme will not heritage function.php configuration in Atahualpa upgrading. We always need to backup function.php and then re-upload the backup after finish to upgrade. This is a must step to do if we do customization directly in function.php of Atahualpa WordPress Theme. If not, you can forget this step and go directly to upgrading process.

Here how I upgrade this blog theme this time:

• I download the theme from Atahualpa 3.5.1 download page to my laptop
• Log in to WordPress admin page
• Go to “Appearance” area and click it
• Click “Themes”
• Click “Add New” button
• Click “Upload”
• Click “Browse” and choose the Atahualpa 3.5.1 from our Laptop file
• Click “Install Now” button
• Wait until there is success notification
• Then click “Activate” to apply the theme to blog
• Open FileZilla and connect to blog file
• Upload back the Blog Logo
• Re-upload the function.php file which we backup in pre-instalation step before.
• Done. The Atahualpa theme is successfully upgraded.

Great! This blog already run in newest Atahualpa WordPress Theme version now and ready to further Atahualpa customization journey. Yeah, I am having Google Adsense account now. Many thanks’ to Jeandsen that help me to have it. Jeandsen give a great tip that make Google finally accept my Google Adsense application after 8 month in struggling for it. I was already thinking that Google really have built in habit that rejected my each application. I apply four times in eight months and all rejected without any hesitation by Google. Fortunately, all of that already become past story for now because my Google Adsense application is already accepted. It is accepted for almost a month ago. Yeah, I do not put it in this online knowledge blog directly after it is accepted.

It took one weeks for Google Adsense appearancing in this blog because I want to learn first about where the best way to place Google Adsense in this blog. And now, after do some research, I decide that only place Google Adsense advertisement inside the post only – exactly, place the text only Google Adsense Ad Unit in first paragraph of each post. I think it is already enough to have good earning from Google Adsense advertisement without overwhelming this blog with ads. After decide to put Google Adsense in first paragraph of each post, I directly search how to do it. I do search in internet and found many ways to do it. Google Adsense placement can do in two ways which are manually manipulate blog theme code.

Put Google Adsense Easily with “Easy AdSense”

As you already aware that I really have lack knowledge in PHP and CSS which is a programming code that use by Atahualpa 3.4.4 WordPress theme which is used by this blog as theme. Therefore, I want to use WordPress plugin that allow me to easily put Google Adsense in first paragraph of each post without theme code manipulation. I found that “Easy AdSense” WordPress plugin is working perfectly with Atahualpa WordPress theme. “Easy Adsense” WordPress plugin allow me to easily show Google Adsense advertisement in first paragraph of each post without code programming.

Install “Easy AdSense” WordPress Plugin

Go to “Site Admin” page

Click “Plugin” tab

Click “Add New” button

Insert “Easy Adsense” in search box

Click “Search Plugins” button

Click “Install” button in “Easy Adsense”

Click “Install Now” button

Click “Activate Plugin” button

Setting “Easy AdSense” WordPress Plugin

Still in “Site Admin” page

Click “Settings”

Click “Easy Adsense”

Delete all default Google Adsense code

Click “Save Changes”

Copy paste Adsense code from Google Adsense to “Lead-in AdSense Text”

Check the “Pages (Ads only in Posts)” and “Home Page” in “Suppress AdSense Ad Blocks on:” part to suppress AdSense appears in home and page.

Click “Save Changes” button

Note: it is needed time for Google Adsense advertisement appearing if use this plugin, be patient.

Conclusion

The placement is really important part in Google Adsense. The right placement can boost our earning. That’s why we should choose carefully how to show Google Adsense in our blog. There are many ways to place Google Adsense in our blog. We can place it in post, widget, header or footer. Theme choosing is an important part that Blogger must do. Theme choosing can lead your blog success or fail. And, if you choose a wrong theme, Plase fix it as soon as possible. That’s what I do for this Online Knowledge blog. You should already aware that I change this Online Knowledge  blog theme. Yeah, I change it from iNove theme to Atahualpa 3.4.4 theme. I want to change iNove theme because I find that iNove theme is hard to customized while I do not have deep knowledge in CSS coding. And it is surely not okay to let this blog only use default layout. It is not okay because blog surely need uniqueness in blog theme layout for better blog branding, and of course also for better reading experience.

Yeah, that’s why I really need a theme that can easily customize without deep CSS coding knowledge. I already heard so many time how good Thesis theme in term of blog layout customizing without deep CSS coding knowledge, but as you know, Thesis theme is a paid WordPress premium theme. Therefore, I pass it because I do not want to pay for having a theme yet. So, I try to search some free WordPress theme trough the net that allows easy customizing without deep CSS coding knowledge. We can set “Overall Style & Config”, “Header Area”, “Center Column”, “Sidebars & Widgets”, “Post & Pages”, “Comments”, “Various Content Items”, “Archives Page” and “CSS & Javascript” trough it. We surely can make our own unique layout for almost all of our blog part such as post, link, widget, sidebar, writing, and many others by use build in Atahualpa layout features.

Layout Customizing

I do not customize many things from default Atahualpa layout in this blog yet. I only change some minor things from default Atahualpa layout such as change the default header image, overlay blog title in header image instead show it in different part, Use style in Blog title, use two sidebar in left, remove left and right opacity, show posts RSS feed link, show comment RSS feed link, show email subscription links, and change link default color. I think that all of these minor changes already give some uniqueness for this online knowledge blog. Surely, I will make some major change in future for this blog improvement.

Conclusions

Our blog surely needs some uniqueness in theme layout for better branding. It is hard to customize lay out if we do not have deep knowledge in CSS coding. That’s why we need to use customizable theme for our blog. Customizable theme allows us to easily customize layout without need deep CSS coding knowledge.
