I know that some security action must be did for our online properties such as site, online store, and blog. This security action is needed to be did so our online properties is save from spammer, cracker and hacker. Therefore, I really understand if blogger secure their blog from irresponsible internet users by using some security plugin and coding. It is an acceptable action indeed if not going too far. Yes – if it is not going too far. It is annoying if the security action is going too far such as ban all IP Address of certain area or some security action like that.
If you do that kind of security action, you may already ban many of your blog potential readers – you may already ban me from your blog! Please look in below picture which I show up in my Mozilla Firefox browser when submit my comment to a blog:
The picture should already tell you that a blog do not allow me to comment because I use proxy to browse the internet. As you know, I am not a spammer – I am a legit commentators for so many blogs in blogosphere. And this time, I fill the blog is suck to block me like that because just a proxy. For your information, in my country an internet bandwidth and the public IP Address are really expensive so it is needed some creative manipulation to make the internet access become cheaper. And one of solutions is that internet provider serve internet access by using proxy to save the bandwidth so they can sell the internet access cheaper.
It is really harsh for me if you block me to commenting in your blog just because I use proxy to access the internet. And you should aware that there are many peoples in third country use this kind internet access. At least, Indonesia which is my country, is the third biggest countries in the world have great traffic potential and almost all of peoples in Indonesia use proxy server to access the internet. It mean that you may be already lost many of your blog potential readers by use this kind of security strategy. So please, do not sacrifice us for the security sake. Do not go too far with your online security strategy. Lightened your WordPress security strategy, please!
I hope this request article can reach you all which I believe as great bloggers. Let’s make blogosphere become better place for all of us – also for third country peoples.
That’s all update this time, wait for next update!

This can only work with static IP, for example in my country, most of ISP use dynamic IP and banning 1 can lead to banning all. I do not recommend this way, I use moderate feature
Yes, it is should not be used.
I understand your problem…but I had a site that was getting up to 100 spam comments a day. If I was to keep the site, I had to do something or all would be lost. I finally had to take extreme action and start banning IP addresses.
That’s a challenge you and other proxy users may have, and I sympathize with you, but we have to protect our investment too.
It seems that contacting the owner of a blog you really want to post on is a solution you may have to use.
Maybe you’ll make enough money that you won’t have to worry about that.
Great post!
Mike
I understand the pain behind it but It still too extreme to ban the IP Address in my opinion.
I saw this option on WP Spam Free wherein admin can allow or disallow users behind proxy servers to comment. Mine is set to not allow unless the user is behind a proxy server e.g., a VPN but ordinary proxies are just fine. No wonder why you’re able to comment on my site.
Based on your post, it seems to me that your IP was blocked. It can be unreasonable if the blocking was made on a particular IP range e.g., 121.00.0.1-121.00.0.10 or something of that sort which might have included your IP accidentally.
I have experienced this before and I called the attention of these bloggers on Twitter but it seems that they never cared if I cannot comment. They said that I was the only one who’s having that issue. Fine with me.
I never returned to their blogs. End of story.
Thanks for the info — I know what plugin make this problem now. And as like you, I surely say god bye forever for that kind of blog.
Even I don’t ban any IP addresses! Thats so bad!
Yes, it is really bad.
So far I don’t ban any IP address.
Great Fazreen, keep it up.
Exactly if we ban IP’s, we may lose our loyal readers too as everyone is using dynamics IP’s
Yeah… and it may be many loyal readers.
Spammers make everyone have to tightin there security,, a necessary evil.
There is fine line to being secure and blocking to much.
Yes, it is a fine link indeed but I hope blogger do not cross that line.
Proxy is good as well as bad. Hacker use proxy to hide their original IP and due to that webmaster usually block IP to make their website more protected but banning IP is not the only solution, there are lots of other way a webmaster can use. Hope that blog owner understand that.
Yup, I hope too.
While I understand your point, you must also realize that after a blog or any website, gets repeatedly spammed ftorm the same IP address, the ultimate answer is to ban it.
Don’t blame the blog/website, banning an IP is typically a last resort after continues abuse.
I do not blame them — I just tell there are consequence to do that which loss me or people like me. In long term, may loss more traffic.
