My way to increase Page Views in this Online Knowledge Blog

Page Views is really important for blogger. Page Views tells blogger that the blog visitors really read the blog content. In further, it tells blogger that the content is great and needed. I think this opinion is acceptable even it is not accurate 100% to describe how contents are. Of course there always is limitation. There will be no page views if blog posts are unknown. Blog posts become unknown usually because the posts were old enough. The old posts usually are buried because there are many new posts come. That’s why I think I need to make my old posts still visible for my blog readers regardless of time. What a waste if old posts stay buried because there may be many great posts in old posts.

Have Popular Posts List and Related Link List

I once consider “Table of Contents” page for old blog posts visibility purpose. But, I cancel it because “Table of Contents” page is very slow to opened if there are 500 or above list of contents, and it hard to manage too. So, I look for alternative ways to make old posts of this online knowledge visible even tough there are many new posts come. And I found the alternative which is related links list and most popular post list. I think it is more reasonable to have a related links list and most popular posts list instead to have particular page that consist all link of blog posts. Popular posts list is indicator for most good and needed posts. And related posts are guidance to related article with current reading article that may need to read for further understanding.

In my opinion, both of popular posts list and related posts list are more then enough for old posts visibility purpose. Its can represent “Table of Contents” good enough. It is because both of them are enough to represent link to old blog posts. And base on my own experience in this blog, it surely increases number of Page Views. And it is not only more visible in human eyes, but also in search engine eyes. It is because the link is tag as do follow. Popular Posts list and Related Links list have similarity affect like do internal deep linking in post article. Surely, it will help in Search Engine Optimizing (SEO) and will increase our blog search engine result page (SERP).

So, we do not need particular page as “Table of Contents” anymore if we already have popular posts list and related posts list. And there are many WordPress plugin out there in internet to be found. WordPress plugins that allow us to have great popular posts list and related posts list in our blog. I, my self, use “WordPress.com Popular Posts” plugin for show the popular posts list and use “Yet Another Related Posts” plugin for show related posts list. Both of the plugins give good customizable Popular Posts List and Related Posts List.

Install “WordPress.com Popular Posts” plugin

Popular Post

  2. Click “Plugins” tab
  3. Click “Add New” button
  4. Fill “WordPress.com Popular Posts” in search box
  5. Click “Search Plugins” button
  6. Click “Install” button of “WordPress.com Popular Posts”
  7. Click “Install Now” button
  8. Click “Activate Plugin” button
  9. Click “Appearance” tab
  10. Click “Widgets” button
  11. Drag “Popular Posts” widget to side bar
  12. Setting it with my most suitable needs and then click “save” button

I choose to show title and number of view in my popular posts list, and also except the blog pages in the list. I do it by add [%post_views%] in “formats of the link” and insert all “page id” in “Exclude these posts”. And I leave all others settings in default. We always can go to “”WordPress.com Popular Posts” plugin site for more advance setting. And do not forget that the blog must be already installed “Wordpress.com Stats” plugin.

Install “Yet Another Related Posts” plugin

Related Link

Related Link

  10. Click “Related Posts (YARPP)” button
  11. Move YARPP template files into my current theme

  13. Click “Update Options” button

I leave almost all of the setting in default mode for this “Yet Another Related Posts Plugin”. I only disallow “uncategorized” category on it and disable description of the link. It is already enough to give what I need for this time. I may try some advance setting in future for better related link list.
