It is the part of my journey to reduce more WordPress plugin in this blog. And now I will try to optimize a Cpanel feature which is easy to find in each web hosting Cpanel – phpMyAdmin. phpMyAdmin can be used as alternative tool for the database related WordPress plugin such as WP-DB-Backup. As you know, WP-DB-Backup is a WordPress Plugin that allow us to save WordPress database manually or automatically. Indeed, WP-DB Backup is a great useful WordPress plugin. However, We can optimize phpMyAdmin to replace the function of this plugin so we can remove it from our blog’s plugin list. And not only that, phpMyAdmin surely can do more.

In this blog post, I share three points about how to use phpMyAdmin in the term of blog database. I believe that this three points of phpMyAdmin usage is enough to cover all of our database related WordPress plugin so we can remove them from our blog for good. This is surely a big help for my less WordPress plugin blogging journey. Now, I can remove database related WordPress plugin from my blog and still able to do:

Point #1. DataBase Optimizing

As you know, database can slow our WordPress blog loading time. It is happened if our blog database is not well optimized. As you know, loading time is the important reason to keep our traffic since the readers surely will go away if our blog loading time is too long. Also that loading time is a factor for SERP determinant now – at least for the biggest search engine on the internet, Google. Therefore it is a must to make sure that our blog database is always well optimized. We can use phpMyAdmin to do this database optimizing work so it run lighter and faster.

Here how we can do it:

Point #2. DataBase Backup

Database backup is a must as part of blogging disaster recovery. Without database backup, it is almost impossible to recover from blogging disaster. We may have content data in office format but it is surely needed very big effort to recover our blog with only that data. In other hand, database backup can recover our blog in very easy and fast way. We only need to upload the data back into our blog database and our blog is recovered perfectly. Database is the core of our blog for sure. The entire of our blog content is stored in the database. A broken database surely will lead us to blogging disaster. It is great that we already have database backup in our computer/laptop file so we can always fix database problem easy and fast. However, it is not so efficient to fix database problem by uploading the entire of database if the problem is only happened in single part (table) of database. It is far more efficient if we only fix the broken part. Fortunately, phpMyAdmin allow us to fix single broken part (table) of database easily without have to re-upload our database backup.

Here how we can do database fixing:

  • Wow.. That was a bunch of steps.. I never dared to play with phpMyAdmin as I believed it was too risky to play with databases and PHP was alien to me. Anyhow,I have bookmarked this very page so as to follow these steps. To me, it seems like this risk is gonna be worthily.
