How To Create Blog Logo Easily by Using GIMP #4

This is the fourth article of blog logo creation by using GIMP blog post series. And if you new for this blog post series, please read the other articles of this blog post series before go further:

As you know, We already get a shape for our new blog logo in the last article (third article) by using some GIMP basic manipulation. The logo is still so simple and still looks ugly at that last article. Therefore in this fourth article, we will do further manipulation so the logo looks become greater and also become ready for finishing touch.

OK, let’s Do Picture Manipulation to Have Great Blog Logo

I create new transparent layers by click blank icon in “Layers,Channels, Paths” dialog box, and name it as “Frame” layer. This layers position should be right in under “Basic Text” layer.

Select “Basic Text” layer and click lock in above (to keep it transparent).

Do “Alpha to selection” in “Basic Text” layer. Do Right click in picture than choose “Select” – “Grow” – use 2 pixel as value. Here the result:

Select “Frame” layer and fill it with black by drag black color from tool box into picture. Do de-select all ( ctrl + shift + a ). Here the result:

Now, I want to put some shadow in the logo. I duplicate “Frame” layer and name it as “Shadow” layer. I make “Shadow” layer position is right below “Frame” layer.

Still in “Shadow” layers, Un-check Lock above (keep trans), blur it with “gausian blur” with 20 px. Set “Opacity” be 50.5 and move it to right and down base on feeling until it is looks great. And here the result:

Final Words

It is nearer and nearer to finish this blog logo creation – and it mean the end of this blog logo creation blog post series. In this article, We already did a great GIMP manipulation job. The final result seems have a good shape already. It is already have the style but need more of it to become better blog logo, in my opinion. Therefore in next article, we will do some styling as finishing touch for this blog logo creation. So just stay tune!
