Google Wave is Officially Over

Google WaveFinally, Google Wave is officially included at Google biggest failure list. Google Wave accompanies Google Knol, Google Orkut, and Google Answers at the list. In my opinion, Google Wave failure is  a story that full of irony. As far as I remembered, Google Wave should be a very big hit since there were so many internet users that impatient to try it from four months before the Google Wave launching. This impatient even make the Google Wave invitation became very high desirable. The Google Wave invitation even sold at E-bay for $70 back then.

With entire of the big hype around Google Wave, I was very sure that Google Wave was something. But, now, we face that Google Wave is another big failure from Google. Google Wave project is officially over now. In my opinion, it is because of the over expectation. As the hype increase day by day from four months before the launching, there are so many high expectation rumors about it. It was said that Google Wave was the revolution for online communication. It makes many people expected something very disruptive online communication tool from it.

With all of the hype, Google Wave should offer the very different communication way. However, it seems the expectation can not be met which raise disappointment fast after the official launch. I, my self, already tried Google Wave and feel very lost in it. I did not have any idea how I must start (or where the starting point) to use it it. I also did not know where and how to got what I need from it. It seems that rather as a new revolution for online communication, it is only a very confusing online communication tool for me. I bet there are many people who have the same thought with me. So, It is no wonder the Google Wave is a failure also no wonder that it is over now.

After this, let wait if Google Buzz will be the next Google failure since Google Buzz is also on stake now. There are many that still not interested in it even though Google Buzz is claimed as the better from twitter. I am still using Google Buzz by my self which mean I know what I expect from it and how to use it. However, it seems that I still do not get many from it so may finally over also – next after Google Wave. Let’s just wait for it.

That’s all update this time, wait for next update!

  • Buzz is the next big failure from Google. This is what happens when you want to rule the world but you have no clue about that :)

well, you can’t always get everything right and although there are things Google does that fall in the category of “things that make you go hmm”, I still think Google does have some pretty good stuff out there that still make up for these failures. I love my Gmail accounts, google maps are great, blogger rocks and reader is very helpful at helping me keep track of my blog RSS collection which grows on a weekly basis. There there is Chrome browser which although i don’t use looks good (I prefer Firefox) and Chros OS sounds like it may actually be pretty good.

They still have stuff they are working on and improvements for current products but just like Microsoft, Apple, Chevy, Ford and many other companies; everyone has a product or two that just doesn’t cut it (the Yugo comes to mind). Google Wave? It’s just one of those that sounded cool but was just not “stupid simple” as my high school drafting teacher would say.

    • You are so right. It is impossible to success in everything. We knew that Microsoft is very success with Windows XP and (may be) Windows 7 but they are failure for Windows ME and Windows Vista. That’s also happened with Google. Despite their failure, I think their success story is much. The Android OS seems will become Google next landmark (or may be already).

  • but they must know that what google touch doesnt become Gold …

  • Google Wave was a bad joke , and buzz is counting days … But its failures we learn … so does google . Good to see they are experimenting with things

  • All i would say is RIP Google Wave. Some institution students are still using it as an effective too to collaborate and communicate.

Anyhow., still it has not satisfied google’s expectation.

To be honest I never understood what wave was all about. I got my invite thru Google but have yet to figure out how it works. Don’t have anyone to try it with. I have seen many reviews on this but none every really provided and understandable concept of what wave was. Was it like msn messenger, was it like twitter, was it like facebook. I don’t know, I don’t know at all.

As for Buzz, I think given a chance it could be useful except it seems to be too dependent on you gmail list than anything else. I think google may have been a bit too excited on some of these ventures that they jumped the gun and provided services that either already existed and was no need for another of the same or less quality or something so strange no one could figure out what to do with it. Not to mention everything they do revolves around saving everything you with their stuff in an archive. If this doesn’t scare everyone, nothing will.

    • That’s the point. It seems many people do not know what exactly the concept of Google Wave. It is said that Google Wave is the new way of online communication but no body know exactly what kind of online communication way.

For Google Buzz, I agree with you. It is not a failure yet.
