Compaq Presario CQ40-416 AU and Applications/Software Choosing

I just bought my fresh new laptop. I bought Compaq Presario CQ40-416 AU. Here the specifications:

• Processor type: AMD Turion ™ X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-77 
• Processor speed: 2300 Mz
• Memory: 2048 MB
• Hardisk: 320GB
• Graphic: ATI Radeon ™ HD 3200
• Display: 14.1” Diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display
• Sound: Altec Lansing® speakers
• Battery: 6-cell Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery

I choose this Compaq Presario CQ40-416 AU because it have reasonable price for this great specification. I think this Compaq Presario CQ40-416 AU perfectly match with my needs.


Of course, I surely need to choose which application/software that I install on it. It is surely needed to choose carefully base on my needs so there are no waste of resources and money. After some research, I decide to install minimum requirement application first so this new fresh Compaq Presario CQ40-416 AU can run smoothly and fulfill my initial  needs. Please note that the lists are only minimum requirement so my new fresh laptop can be operate without any problem. I always can add other application/software in future if needed. 1. Operating System (OS)


As you see this Compaq Presario CQ40-416 AU does not have Operating System (OS) on it. Yeah—that’s why this Compaq Presario CQ40-416 AU have a reasonable cheap price. We must buy and install the OS by our self. Lucky me, I already have Original Windows 7 so no need to spend my money to buy OS. Yeah – I actually can use Linux on it for free but since I already have Windows 7, I decide to use it. Honestly, it is because I have been used Windows OS for around 10 years. It is surely need more learning process if I use Linux.


2. Antivirus


Antivirus Installation is the second thing after Operating System (OS) that I always do for each new PC/Laptop. It is because without it, the PC/Laptop surely will directly consume by so many viruses in application and internet. The virus surely will harm all application and data in PC/Laptop until we can not use it again. Therefore, antivirus must be installed before install other applications and connect to internet. Compaq Presario CQ40 actually have 60 days license of Norton anti virus on it, but I choose to use another free antivirus. It is because I do not want to pay each month to Norton after 60 days license reach. So, I download free AVG antivirus which is the best free antivirus available in my opinion, and then directly install it to my new Compaq Presario CQ40.


3. Office Application


Yeah – the best Office application software in the world may be still Microsoft Office but I do not install it of course. It is because Microsoft Office will cost me a lot of money to have it in my laptop. I decide to use OpenOffice which is free complete Office  application. I can enjoy all Microsoft Office like service without need to spend single penny. It is free and there are no limitation on it.


4. PDF Reader Application


PDF Reader surely needs to read many document for this new laptop. This laptop manual book also in pdf forms so it is really a must to have PDF Reader Application. I use the most known PDF Reader application in the world which is Adobe Acrobat Reader Application. We can download Acrobat Reader Application from Acrobat Reader Download page and then use it for free.


5. Image Viewer and Editor Application


Image Viewer and Editor surely need if we want to view our image collection. And image editor is a must so we can edit the image base on our need. As example, I as blogger always need to edit some image so can put it in my blog. That’s why I include Image Viewer and Editor in the list. I use IrvanView application which is my favorite Image Viewer and Editor application. And once again, IrvanView also can use for free. I just need to download IrvanView and then install it.

Conclusions

Application/Software choosing is always full of intrigue for new laptop. There are so many choices available which may confuse us. We must choose application/software base on our need so there are no resources and money waste. The wrong choice may cost us money and performance. So, here I share minimum requirement that new fresh laptop must have so can use without any problem. I hope this list can help to give one alternative when do application/software choosing for your new fresh laptop.
