Ok, let me share about my experience to build WordPress blog at Freeweb7.com in this article. I think that it is really worthy to try the WordPress engine blog in free web hosting service first before apply it in paid web hosting service. By have this free hosting WordPress blog as laboratory, we can explore the WordPress freely without waste the resource but time. And we still can use this free hosting WordPress blog as our lab although already create our paid webhosting WordPress blog. We can use it to test any WordPress stuff before install in our real (paid web hosting) WordPress blog. And this free web hosting wordpress blog always useful even tough we already have our real wordpress blog in paid web hosting service.
Here how to build the free hosting WordPress blog:
- Get latest WordPress engine and save it to my Laptop
- Go to freeweb7.comĀ (as my free web hosting service provider) and click “Register” button
- Fill the registration form and click “submit” button. My user name that i fill will use for link name if do not use own domain name, so I chose it carefully.
- The freeweb7.com send the confirmation link to my email
- Check the email and click the confirmation link
- The link goes to registration second step form; fill it with all that is needed.
- I do not fill the extra domain because do not use it. You can fill it if already have your own domain name.
- Click “submit” button
- My domain which is “myusername.Freeweb7.com” already created
- Need to create database at myusername.freeweb7.com to serve WordPress blog.
- Go to control panel, click “Create/delete MySQL database” button.
- Create database name, username and password for accessing the database
- Choose grant all access to the username that I create before.
- I upload the WordPress engine to username.freeweb7.com using FTP Connection. I use FileZilla which is my favorite FTP manager to do the FTP. I upload all WordPress engine use FileZilla to my web root directory.
- I create “wp-config.php” by edit “wp-config-sample.php” which I find in WordPress engine file that uploaded before. I save “wp-config-sample.php” as “wp-config.php” after do editing. I learn how to make “wp-config.php” at WordPress codex.
- I browse my blog (myusername.freeweb7.com) and I automatically redirect to “WP-Admin” page.
- I am asked to fill the blog title and email address. I fill all of it, and choose to allow my blog appear at search engine
- Then click “Install” button.
- The success page that contain username and password to administrate the WordPress blog appear, which mean the installation already success. I save the password for future use.
- Click “Login” button and use my username and password which appear at success page before.
- There is a note appear to tell me to chan admin password. I change it with most suitable secure password.
- My WordPress blog which is hosting at freeweb7.com already ready. I check it by browse myusername.freeweb7.com.
- I can see that my free WordPress basic blog already appear. It will need many tweaking (and learning) to be better blog.
You may think that to have free webhosting WordPress blog is useless but I really learn much from my free web hosting WordPress blog. It is because there is no fears to do whatever in this free blog. Free blogs and hosts are always best option for experimental purpose. Thanx for sharing step by step tutorial
@Ricky
You’re welcome.
Hi dana, I agree with Ricky, free hostings are usually not too dependable. They can suddenly shut down our whole blog without prior notice. But it’s OK for experimental things.
Btw if our paid hosting have Fantastico Deluxe, a one-click web platform installation software, it’s very easy to set up our WP site. It only takes about 1 minute.
@Isaac | GoBlogger
Yes, it is only for experimental purpose. Yes fantastisco is great automatic software , i already linked how to use fantastisco in article.
How about [this], dude? Anda you can download it [here] freely.
@frozen
Thanks for the info dude.
This post looks like a great idea. I tried Word Press with a host and could not do it all. I couldn’t figure it out at all and the host was no help at all.
And thanks so much for leaving me a comment on my blog.
@Margaret Elmendorf
Yes, you can try to build experimental wordpress blog in free host to figure it out.
And you’re welcome.
I agree with you dana.
I’ve start my first blog with bloggers – then wordpress.com – free hosting (not remember anymore) – paid host (around a year ago) : it took 2 1/2 years.
@steppinout
I start wiith wordpress.com – bloggers – free hosting – paid host. We seems trough similar path.
In short there really is nothing to worry when all things fail..
@Melvin
Yes, so we can do whatever we want.
I love this post. Very informative. Building blogs at free hosts is really a good idea. But it is good for first timers. Free hosts don’t guarantee about any of our files. They can shut their companies at any time and we will lose our website.
We cannot be dependent on free hosts. We can use them as for back up purposes.
Thanks for the step by step guide. Im thinking of creating a few free blogs but using them to get links and traffic to my main blog. They are useful though and free which is always good.
@Saksham
Only use free host for experimental purpose.
@Blaine Bullman
Oh, it is a good use of free blog.
Interesting idea. I like to play around with my theme and widgets, but now that I am starting to get some traffic it is probably not a good idea to keep doing that live. This could be a great option.
You should have this lab to do exercise in blog design if do not want to disturb your current blog.
